To Divanno and Dinomogetimaros
I offer my praise, O gods of sea and sword
whose names were spoken in prayer so long ago.
Well-crowned ones, beautiful and bright of aspect,
valiant and vigilant, artful and battle-wise,
subtle in statecraft, yours is the overlook,
the well-placed town; yours are the waters, sweet and salt,
the good white wine and the olive-tree, yours
is the noontide sun. O gods of light amid shadow,
gods of long lost tales, of hidden strength, I call to you
with reverence and awe, I honor your mettle
and your might, your greatness and your glory.
