I call to Aveta, lady of sweet water,
holder of that which is good and pure, of that
which brings life to the world, of that which nourishes
and sustains us. Aveta, comforter of parents,
best of midwives, best of nurses, in your arms
you hold the newborn babe, in your arms you enfold
the fearful new mother, sharing with her
your strength and your wisdom. Kind-hearted Aveta,
friend of the little ones, friend of those who sit up late
and rock the cradle, who sing softly and endlessly
while babies fuss and fret, goddess, I thank you
for so many blessings, for your most precious gifts.
