Great-hearted Hidua of the green fields of Gaul,
your feet firm-planted in the sun-warmed soil,
your hands, strong and skillful, in the good black earth,
I call to you with words of joy and good cheer.
Hidua whose gift it is to bring forth life,
who knows the pain of women in their travail,
who eases the passage of the new-born babe,
I call to you with words of prayer and thanks.
Hidua who knows that each journey
has within it an end, who knows that each door
has beyond it a path, who knows much of hope,
I call to you with words of remembrance and praise.
